The frustration I feel when going from a Mighty Mouse with ball to a mouse with a scroll wheel, is the same as when going from a mouse with a scroll wheel to one with none. What a pity it requires a lot of rubbing/wiping and/or disassembling to keep it working!

Nope, just going by what I see around the bus/food court areas in downtown Montreal which is more anecdotal than factual. However, looking at world-wide market share numbers, it's not hard to see the trends and outside the US, the iPhone hasn't had "carrier exclusivity" for quite a while.
Thinking that the reason the iPhone "lags" in market share is because of some kind of carrier exclusivity that just got ended 2 months ago is quite the US Centric view.
In Vancouver (and my group of friends and co-workers) I see at least 5x the amount of iPhones then Android devices. In fact, in my and my girlfriends family alone there are 8 iPhones among 11 people (one of those without an iPhone being my dad who refuses a smartphone at all). However, it's hard to draw any real conclusions up here without any data.
I know that a lot of growth is coming from cheaper markets/countries and in Europe due to the iPhone's higher monthly pricing. I am honestly curious and I wish it was possible to get a country by country breakdown of iOS vs Android.

Really? I took the cue from the post count and not page count. I was under the impression that graphic-heavy threads are closed after about 2000 posts.

If this ipod killer was coming out of MS central (software dev, etc) i wouldn't be concerned. However the team that is working on it (xbox) actually are decently creative.
Also apparently ms has taken a hands off strategy to let the division develop its own creative culture/workflow. Let us remember what really drives the great products from apple - its the creative synergy of many in a culture of passionate people who truly enjoy making things together - a highly collaborative and insanely cool environment.
Because the creative capacity of MS sucks they need to make up with it in cash and market strategy. At least they had the sense to give xbox team freedom from the predominantly borgish world of MS - multiple stupids. - sorry couldn't resist.

So am I the only one left with the original iPhone? Had it since Sep 2006. Was going to wait for the 5, but I'll just get a white 4 in a few weeks. I'm happy.
Nope, I'm also on the original and had it since the first day of release. However I'm on my 3rd original as one was stolen and the other the battery wouldn't last longer than 30 mins of use. Just glad I had family and friends willing to give me their old ones. At least I also still have the original cheap data plan too but that goes with the pain of a slow phone.
I had planned to buy the White iPhone 4 last year when released. Then I waited and waited like a lot of people with limited news. However no way, will I buy in now to the iPhone 4. After the pain of waiting this long, I'm gonna continue to struggle until iPhone 5 whenever that is. However just my luck we might have to deal with a delayed release schedule the year I'm finally ready to buy in no matter what.

heya,
At first, I thought it was more stable.
However something seems to have gone wrong with my audio.
iTunes won't start, when I try it brings up an error message:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-200).
There is no sound in Flash videos (Safari or Chrome) is missing, or any sound in Jitsi (VoIP client), or in MPlayer (Video player).
Strangely enough, QuickTime has sound. Have no idea what's going on here.

The iPad has already blown away the "Apple makes overpriced stuff myth" out of the water. If you are still clinging on to this, let it go and find another useful argument.
Most of the products in Apple's line up are competitively priced or more affordable than its competitors...and don't compare iMac's to desktop boxes it's an all-in-one a different form factor.
Apple makes insane profits because their products sell...in extraordinary numbers not because they are overpriced. Fact is if Apple only makes income because of the premium, people will not continue to buy them if they don't work well.
If you want to dispute what I said, try making your own product, design a pretty logo for it and sell it at a premium. See how that works out for you.
Well said, but even if this iVisual was to come out, Apple is not going to bring out just a TV its going to be much more and I can't imagine what that could be. Most people even today just don't have the internet needed to really push something Apple would want to get into when it comes to the TV that is why the Apple TV is still a hobby for Apple.
That said maybe they are looking to see what Google does with their Gigabyte fiber deployment. If we started to see real speeds something like a 4k apple tv could become a reality. Give me that and retianal display and drop all the 3d gimmick, I just don't really care for it.

When one company acquires another like that, they don't just tear down all the old company's equipment and replace it with their own. If that were the case AT&T would simply skip over the whole mess with getting the deal approved by the US Department of Justice and the FCC and just buy a crapload of equipment to put up themselves with that $39 billion.
If the deal is approved T-Mobile's assets will be integrated into AT&T's network and AT&T is probably having all their handset manufacturers run similar testing on T-Mobile equipment to ensure compatibility.

iPod is the cool thing. It is the brand name. It is what everyone asks for, even if they're using a generic term.
If you have an identical iPod and identical Microsoft brand side by side, people will go for the iPod, because it is the standard they are comfortable with. Even my grandparents konw what an iPod is. It is the Windows / MS Office of the music player world.
I know its a hard thing to wrap our minds around, but in this particular space, Apple is the established gorilla and everyone has to fight for the extra mindshare. People gravitate to the iPod, and will look at an MS offering with suspicion. "What does Microsoft have to do with Music? Aren't they a computer company?"

But I think the biggest advantage is that it would be very very simple to adjust the interface to dial phonenumbers, type text messages, and so on. In other words: the iPhone would be within handreach, and it would not require dozens of buttons added to interface (eg via a dock connector like the FM radio) I believe this was planned for 2006
Very interesting, I hadn't considered this. It would still obviously lack tactile feedback, but then again the buttons on my current phone are so tiny they're not the easiest to use either.
