Just today I was reading on the ac21 thread, how you lamented that we as a community dont stand up for injustice and how some folks are worried that writing AC21 letter may mess up their situation somehow ......
And right now , you are suggesting that the best thing is to get out of any kind of mess. So the person knew he was doing something illegal and his 8 month old kid was beaten up and you feel he paid the price and now No Problem and he should move on ???????????

You have some people advertising that they provide nannies for elderly care, child care, they provide food on daily basis and also provide cooks for occasions, services ranging from janitor work, to helping with groceries and all sorts of stuff.
This industry is big - very very big. Some agencies did tell us they have nannies on j1 visa.
We on this forum who are very vocal are the most innocent folks in the world when it comes to this kind of stuff and we have a straight tangential approach of punish someone for beating the kid.
Well - lets use our brains instead. Believe me - our community does not have any sympathy, because we are not united.
People can come on this forum and give advises - but the person who implements it must know what he can expect and that's why he posted here. Our friend is on h1b and maybe having his 485 pending and he must have careful thoughts before he leaps into something.
What is the guarantee that a certified nanny wont ill treat the child. I have heard that nannies need not beat the child but do give mild sedation to babies in their milk so that the nanny can be in peace. If a nanny is doing that do you think she will be caught on tape?
There are tons of things nannies do and you may never be aware of it or may not be caught on video tape.

I have a problem where my "Given Name" is entered as "<first name> <last name>" in my passport (India). The "Surname" is left blank. I have been in the US for 7 years now and it has never been a problem so far. I usually enter the "<last name>" in the last name column on all documents. I wonder if this will cause problems during the I485 name check stage. Any one here who can throw some light on this issue?
I realize that the question is a little weird, I appreciate any response.

Any question reg GC filing is not wierd. None of us are experts, however, as a whole this body is a wealth of information. There will be many who have this / similar problems and will provide answers. My wife also has this issue in the passport. We are not yet at the 485 stage, however, information would help. We can easily change the name via the Indian embassy but in your case that might be late. Hope somebody puts in information.

Only 9% away from my first $500 contribution as part of the pledge..... this forum is so slow.... I thought that by today noon I have to shell out $500...but doesn't looks the case...

Oh man. I had to burst out laughing on your post imagining how that cop would endure if given such a punishment. But pity that lady how much ever crime she might have committed earlier. Still pregnancy and delivery is a re-birth for ladies.
There are times when you enforce law as a cop. But not all the times. Wish there was some humanity shown by this person. Acts like these are like a drop of ink in a glass of water. These bad cops taint the entire department.
Disgusting, Sheriff Joe is monster. Perhaps he came from family with no respect for women.
On the lighter note, if I were a judge, here's what I would do with Sheriff Joe if he was trailed:
1. Perform sex change operation on Sheriff Joe and install a womb.
2. Perform artificial insemination on Sheriff Joe using the seed of big man like Undertaker, Shaq or Khali (so that offspring is a big baby).
3. On term, shackles Sheriff Joe and make him go through the pain of giving birth. In the process don't administer epidural or perform C-Section.

it goes deeper than that. first let me point out that this is philosophical- you argument is not about law, it's about a point of view.
so if i ask you why EB2 filers should spend extra years getting educated and never getting this all important magic "PD" and then get in line behind someone who got a job the day they entered the country- and got a PD soon enough- what would you say?
ask me. it took me 11 years to get a PD. why? for 7 of those years i was getting my advanced education. so why should i suffer behind the 3 year Indian degree person (against my 7 years there as well) who came in 5 years after me and filed right away?
there are reasons why the EB priorities were set up. by simply extending your logic EB1 should also wait for a turn and not have priority. what's good for the goose....
having said that, it is absolutely insane to ask people to wait indefinitely and we must do something about it.
today the EB3 folks (and I have nothing against them, their waits are insane- and it's absolutely not right) are porting to EB2 with those bachelors degrees and 5 years experience. and just because they could APPLY for a GC earlier and all their years get counted in the PD, they keep lining up ahead of me. why do all my years count for NOTHING?
please spare us "fortunate" EB2s a thought too. think of when in life our careers are finally freed from waiting for a GC.
and now please concentrate on ways to end retrogression and stop the EB2 vs EB3 crap. we all have our problems.
I should clarify few points here:
1. Let EB2 be wonder kids. All I am saying is their GC shouldn't be at the cost of EB3. Have a separate quota which is twice as much as EB3. But, when the left overs are up in the air, EB2 shouldn't grab everything.
2. Not all EB3 are with 3 years Indian degree. Most of them are 4 years and above. Please prove me wrong. There are several Master degree holders in EB3 queue just because of their employer decision (not even job requirements).
4. Most people filed under EB3 way back in 2001/2002 because they didn't antici pate such a mess 5-6 years down the road.
5. Today most applications are EB2? How? does it mean that the '3 years' Indian degree holders are not coming to US anymore? Nope. These days people just ', manage' to file under EB2.
6. Finally, EB2 would understand what we (EB3) are saying if the EB1 queue was retrogressed and EB2 was stuck in 2001.
There is no separate quota while applying for H1B but at the final stage of GC! Ridiculous!!
Bottom line, a VISA that could impact an individual's life so much should not be dragged for 7-8 years. And, thank you for your concern for EB3.

I didnot started this thread not blame anyone. Everyone knows IV is our only hope....sorry if it hurt someone.
All I wanted convey is that the current visa bulletin is an opportunity (just like jul 07), IV should try to take advantage of it. They made a mistake by putting in writing that USCIS can not estimate, lets use it to our full advantage.
Lesser mortals like myself can not do much...but surely IV core can.
